Scope

This document provides a common language covering “non-targeted testing methods in food and feed authentication”– a diverse family of methods that can be applied within food and feed authentication purposes. The document provides general structure and guidelines for the development of this type of methods, along with the definitions of terms involved in their development. General considerations on validation of this type of methods, i.e. steps to be taken to allow objective estimation of methods’ future performance are provided in this document.

Purpose

Appropriate and validated non-targeted testing methods are necessary to enable the check on authenticity of different food products. This document will provide general structure and guidelines for the development of this type of methods, along with the definitions of terms involved in their development.
