ISO/TC 34/SC 8 N822 ISO/NP 20716 "Oolong tea - Definition and basic requirements" (see N823 for draft text)

Scope

This International Standard proposes a definition and give basic requirements for Oolong Tea including the basic chemical composition contentthe packing and marking requirements.

Purpose

As one of the worldwide drinks, the sales of tea in the world are increasing year by year. Oolong tea is being loved by more and more consumers all over the world because of its unique and excellent quality flavor, and more countries begin to produce or consume Oolong tea. The global market for oolong tea is growing.

At present, there is no relevant international standard of oolong tea in the world trade market, which also leads to the confusion of the production and trade of oolong tea in the world. Both the producing and consuming countries of Oolong tea have indicated that there is an urgent need to establish an international standard for Oolong tea, which will be of great benefit to the international trade of Oolong tea.

In this standard, the definition of Oolong tea, the basic requirements of the chemical composition content of oolong tea and the basic processing technology of Oolong tea are systematically and scientifically stipulated and required, for the producers and consumers of oolong tea in the world. With the support of this standard, we can guide the production and consumption of oolong tea in a more standardized and reasonable way.

The Oolong tea working group, ISO /TC 34/SC 8/WG 7, was established in July 2015. The WG7 has collected a number of oolong tea samples from countries and regions around the world, analyzed the main physical and chemical components of the samples, and submitted the CD draft ISO/CD20716 to vote in November 2016.The ISO/CD20716 was return to the preliminary research phase ISO/PWI20716 in December 2017 due to the timing of standard development.

On the basis of previous work, the re-establishment of the project will be conducive to the development of follow-up standards.
