Overview: Under the direction of the Standards Policy and Strategy Committee, shall be responsible for standards to support innovative advancements within additive manufacturing processes relevant to UK industry. It is understood that products and components can often require geometrically challenging shapes and multiple processing elements, the emphasis of development of standards work will eon the process rather than specification of the final product. The development of standards within this area should provide final products with a greater degree of traceable properties, procedures, qualified input materials and confirmed correct processing. All of which can be reported through on- line monitoring. While rapid manufacturing may constitute part of this development process the role of additive manufacturing process is to develop a fully functional final product by either a subtractive or additive process which reduces waste, reduces time and should make manufacturing even more cost-effective.
