ISO/TC 261 N 714, ISO/ASTM PWI 52933 Additive manufacturing - Environment, health and safety - Consideration for the reduction of hazardous substances emitted during the operation of the non-industrial ME

Scope

This standard covers the test method for measuring hazardous substances emitted during the operation of material extrusion type 3D printer at the additive manufacturing public places and considerations for reducing hazardous substances like particle emissions (including ultrafine particle) and chemical substances (VOC, aldehydes)

Purpose

The global 3D printing market continues to grow steeply every year as it is applied to various manufacturing industries. The growth is not only seen in industrial 3D printers, but also in the material extrusion type 3D printer industry which is used for education and home use. For material extrusion type 3D printer used in schools or homes, consideration is needed for the quality and safety of products as demand for products is increasing for educational and DIY purposes. In particular, when 3D printer is used in AM public places such as schools or offices, the hazardous substances like ultrafine particle and VOCs emitted from the 3D printer are released, which may be harmful to students and users who use the 3D printer. Currently, ISO/TC 261/JG 68 is developing test methods for measuring hazardous substances emitted from 3D printers in test chambers, but there is no test method applicable to public places such as schools or offices. In this regards, this standard was proposed to measure concentrations of hazadous substances generated at the AM public places(school, public place and so on) which is installed material extrusion type 3D printer and to maintain a safe working environment by managing field facilities, 3D printers, material and additive manufactured products.
