This part of IEC 62629 specifies the standard measurement methods and measurement conditions for determining the optical performance of plane-symmetrical real-image-forming optics for aerial displays. This document includes measurements of the transmission distribution function and the extent of light spread in the image formed by the optics.
Aerial displays are increasingly being introduced in applications such as elevators, automated teller machines (ATMs), public information terminals, automotive systems, digital signage and sanitary equipment. In particular, aerial touch interfaces enable o peration without direct contact with a physical control surface and can therefore contribute to improved hygiene in public facilities, healthcare -related environments and sanitary installations.
Plane-symmetrical real-image-forming optics are key components that contribute to the optical performance of these systems. Different optical structures can produce substantial differences in angular light transmission and in the spatial spread of light in the aerial image. However, no internationally standardized measurement methods are currently available for evaluating these characteristics at the optical -component level.
This document specifies measurement methods and conditions for determining the transmission distribution function and the extent of light spread introduced by plane -symmetrical real-image-forming optics. Standardized procedures will enable manufacturers of image-forming optics to quantitatively specify the performance of their products and enable aerial display manufacturers to compare and select appropriate image-forming optics according to the requirements of their applications. Common measurement methods and performance parameters will also provide a basis for specifying and verifying agreed performance requirements between manufacturers of image-forming optics and aerial display manufacturers. They will improve the reproducibility and comparability of measurement results among manufacturers and test laboratories. They will also support product development and quality control for a wide range of aerial display applications.
