This document outlines the specification of 60° female cone end-connections for high-pressure components in hydrogen supply systems. This is appliable for tube couplings up to 12.7 mm external diameter.
This requirement includes dimensional specification and related tolerances, assembly description, usage and assembling recommendation, material choices including hardness and hydrogen compatibility, and related norms.
The purpose of this document is to provide a set of standard geometry for connections between a sealing cone integrated in an end connection (e.g. fittings) and other components such as pipe/tubing end-flares.
Currently, no standard exists for these connections in gaseous hydrogen applications. Two standards already exist for similar connections in other applications, which are ISO 2974 for diesel engine fuel injection components and ISO 18418 for gasoline engine liquid fuel supply components.
These 60° female cone end-connections are already being designed and used with hydrogen based on the ISO standards listed above or adapted according to experience / internal company design rules. The lack of a specific standard for hydrogen use generates difficulties to interface connections and associated components from different companies. Thus, this document will be useful for all component manufacturers, system builder and system integrators.
For hydrogen systems, the 60° cone end-connections can be used for stationary applications such as hydrogen fuelling stations, test benches, generators, etc. as well as mobility applications including vehicles and trailers.
