This document specifies requirements and test methods for surface-applied diamond composite coatings on designated working zones of agricultural soil-engaging tools, including rotary tiller blades, plowshares and similar components.
Note 1 This document applies to coatings produced by brazing, laser cladding, induction brazing, furnace brazing or other thermal processes capable of forming a metallurgical bond between the coating and the metallic substrate. It covers coated-zone designation, coating characteristics, surface integrity and performance requirements.
Note 2 This document does not cover the structural design, bulk heat treatment or mechanical properties of the uncoated tool substrate. It does not apply to bulk diamond-impregnated or sintered tool bodies, or to discrete wear elements located in holes, grooves or pockets.
Agricultural soil-engaging tools are exposed to severe abrasive wear from mineral particles, soil aggregates and crop residues. Wear of rotary tiller blades, plowshares and similar components reduces cutting efficiency, can increase draft force and shortens service life. Diamond composite coatings can improve wear resistance, but current product specifications and test practices differ in the definition of coated zones, diamond content and grain size, coating thickness, coverage, hardness, roughness, surface integrity, abrasive wear and bonding performance. The resulting data are often not directly comparable across manufacturers, materials, processes and laboratories. The proposed document will establish product-neutral requirements and reproducible inspection, sampling, testing and reporting methods. This document normatively references the existing ISO standards for measuring coating thickness, sampling, penetrant testing, hardness, roughness, abrasive testing, while specifies brazing materials, test-machine calibration, the coating-specific specimen geometry, measurement locations, fixed test conditions, acceptance criteria and failure reporting needed for diamond/metal composite coatings. This document covers qualification, routine production control, periodic verification and requalification. This document is applicable to agricultural-tool manufacturers, coating suppliers, testing laboratories, purchasers and users a common basis for technical specifications and conformity assessment. Expected benefits are improved consistency and comparability, clearer supplier-purchaser communication, longer and more predictable tool service, and support for international trade.
