Practical information to assist operators and clients enable safe and appropriate UAS use to inspect large assets such as buildings and infrastructure. Guidance includes selection of appropriate inspection services, understanding data and deliverables, and assess supplier competence.
Currently there is no consistent framework to help organisations procure and use drone-based asset inspections effectively. Good practice exists within organisations such as National Highways and Network Rail, but it is fragmented and not easily accessible to the wider public and private sectors. The standard would provide practical, outcome-focused guidance that helps non-experts define their requirements, select appropriate inspection services, understand data and deliverables, and assess supplier competence, while accelerating the safe adoption of drones. It will avoid duplicating existing aviation or asset inspection standards and regulations. This is intended to increase confidence and allow organizations to carry out the activities themselves or enable them to use the standard as a framework for a procurement spec.
