Scope

This document specifies the materials, process, technical specification and testing methods for aluminized coatings produced via pack cementation and slurry processes.

This document is applicable to the preparation and quality inspection of aluminized coatings produced via pack cementation and slurry processes on steel and nickel-based alloy surfaces.

Purpose

Pack cementation and slurry aluminizing are key coating technologies that provide high-temperature oxidation resistance on steels and nickel-based alloys, featuring high bonding strength, dense coatings, excellent process adaptability, simple equipment and reasonable cost. These technologies have been widely used in core industry including aviation (high-pressure turbine blades and vanes), electric power (superheater and reheater tubes), and petrochemical (furnace tubes and reformer tubes), playing an irreplaceable role in extending the service life of critical components and ensuring safe and stable operation of equipment.

However, there is currently a lack of ISO standards for pack cementation and slurry aluminide coatings. No unified specifications are available for materials, preparation procedures, quality requirements or test methods. In the absence of unified standards, manufacturing processes are not well regulated, leading to uneven product quality. Furthermore, test results and product quality data from different enterprises and research institutes are difficult to mutually recognize. Taking the aviation industry as an example, OEMs including ACAE, RollsRoyce and GE require independent qualification for manufacturers, which significantly hinders engineering application and international technical cooperation.

The development of unified standards for pack cementation and slurry aluminide coatings will standardize coating preparation processes, harmonize technical requirements and test methods, facilitate global mutual recognition of test results, and advance the world wide application and industrial upgrading of aluminizing technologies. Accordingly, it is necessary and of important engineering value to establish standards for pack cementation and slurry aluminide coatings.
