Scope

This proposed project aims to develop an international standard for the evaluation of water permeability measurement technology using mass spectrometry. The standard will define water permeability measurement methods applicable to various substrates such as OLED display, Photovoltaics, and Coolant package, and specify key test procedures and performance criteria. This work supports the international harmonization of qualification procedures for water permeability measurement, enhances technical interoperability among different fields, and strengthens global competitiveness in advanced manufacturing and testing technology fields.

Purpose

Mass spectrometry, a technique featuring high sensitivity and simultaneous multi-substance analysis, can meet permeability measurement requirements across multiple fields such as materials science, biomedicine, and marine exploration. In contrast, traditional methods (e.g., dynamic relative humidity method, helium leak detection) have shortcomings including insufficient sensitivity, unclear correlation, and limitations in theoretical models, thus rendering the standardization of mass spectrometry essential for optimization. Currently, inconsistencies exist in calibrants and procedures for mass spectrometry; standards can standardize operations, thereby ensuring the comparability and repeatability of measurement results. Moreover, it supports quality control and cross-domain collaboration in fields like biomedical implantable devices, marine exploration, and the materials industry, contributing to the promotion of industrial collaboration and safety.
