This document provides a test method for determining erosion performance of PVD hard coatings by solid particles impingement method utilizing thickness reduction rate method. This document is applicable for PVD hard coatings with thickness 50 μm or less.
The purpose of this proposal is to start an international standardization process to prescribe the evaluation of erosion performance of PVD hard coatings by solid particles impingement method utilizing thickness reduction rate including the erosion apparatus, test conditions such as erosion medium, erosion angle, erosion distance et al; this proposal is used in fields need erosion resistant coating (film) such as gas turbines and engines manufacturers/users; this proposal is also used for the researcher in the companies, universities, colleges and research institutes.
