This document specifies requirements for appearance, dimensions, physical properties, limits for harmful substances, and marking for constrained non-reactive butyl rubber layer dampers for automobiles. It is applicable to the quality assessment of these layer dampers when used for vibration damping, noise reduction, and sound insulation in automobiles.
This proposal addresses a significant technical and market shift in automotive damping materials towards constrained non-reactive butyl rubber layer dampers, which offer superior performance and environmental benefits over traditional bitumen-based products. With an estimated global market of 500,000 metric tons annually, the absence of a unified International Standard creates trade barriers and inefficiencies for global automakers and suppliers. An ISO Standard is strongly needed to:
1) Provide a universal technical benchmark for global trade and quality control.
2) Support the industry's transition to safer, more environmentally friendly materials, aligning with UN SDG s 3, 9, 12, and 15.
3) Ensure fair competition and foster innovation. (A detailed justification is provided in the attached annex)
