This document specifies product characteristics, assessment methods, compliance criteria of test results and a designation system for press fittings, including their elastomeric seals, made of stainless steel. The press fittings are designed for a service lifetime of fifty years. Press fittings produced to this document are suitable for joining stainless steel tubes to EN 10312, EN 10217-7 and/or EN 10216-5 and with wall thicknesses, as specified by the fitting manufacturer.
For certain applications, fittings may be suitable to join also other materials like copper tubes, carbon steel tubes referring to manufacturer’s recommendation. Adaptor fittings and/or transition fittings may be required.
This document specifies fittings in the size range 12 mm to 168,3 mm and or 1/2” to 6” for the purpose of joining stainless steel tubes intended to be used in:
a) Liquid applications:
hot or cold or combined hot and cold water, including potable water systems according to EN 806
heating systems according to EN 12828
cooling systems
drainage systems
fire protection systems including sprinkler systems, according to manufacturer’s recommendation
supply systems for point of consumption with liquid fuels according to EN 12514
b) fuel gas applications with maximum operating pressure less than or equal to 5 bar
Natural gas and liquefied petroleum gas systems
Hydrogen fuel gas
Mixture of natural gas with hydrogen
c) compressed air systems and technical gases
Press fittings may be suitable for use in additional applications outside the scope of this standard. For such applications, the respective manufacturer shall approve the application.
