This document gives guidance to designers, building owners, and employers for integrating nonvisual effects of lighting in lighting design for workplaces. The objective is to achieve beneficial effects on health, performance and wellbeing while at the same time avoiding risks for the safety of users.
Special focus is given to ipRGC influenced responses to light, but other biological and also emotional aspects of light are included.
Paying attention to nonvisual effects of light is predominantly important in those areas where workers stay for long time of the day and can make meaningful use of circadian stimulation or activating effects of light. It is also advantageous in places where people live and work at the same time.
Special remarks with respect to lighting for shift work are given.
The new CEN/TS provides guidance to designers, architects, employers and building owners for integration of ipRGC influenced response to light (IIL) effects in lighting design of workplaces in order to achieve beneficial effects on health, performance and wellbeing and at the same time avoiding risks for safety of users.
The following parameters shall be addressed:
• IIL measures (e.g. melEDI and timing),
• Energy considerations (LENI),
• Productivity and wellbeing of workers,
• Predominant age group
The document will be added as third part in the 12464-series (CEN/TS 12464-3)
The WI is based on DIN/TS 67600, Biologically effective illumination - Design guidelines, and will also include the most recent developments within CIE and other research facilities. The DIN/TS was proposed by the German national committee as this document is currently seen as the most developed standard in this field of application and therefore appears suitable as the basis for a single European document.
The document will be further developed in CEN/TC 169/WG 2 in cooperation with CEN/TC 169/WG 13.
