This International Standard specifies vocabulary and the definition for rare earth element recycling such as Rare earth metal scrap and rare earth End-of-life product, Rare earth collection, Pre-treatment and Treatment.
Rare earth elements are widely used around the world. Therefore, it is very important to achieve unification. This is an explanation of rare earth terms. Most rare earth terms and definitions can be found at: IUPAC (International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry), VIM, Wikipedia and ISO international standards such as ISO 22444-1 and ISO 22444-2.
There are many explanations of key terms related to rare earths, especially recycling. The establishment of this standard is to provide the necessary conditions for the recycling industry. Setting terms helps avoid ambiguity and trade disputes. This occurs because of different understanding of terms and definitions.
There is a need to define various terms related to recycling that are not included in existing rare earth terminology standards. Since the ISO 59004 and ISO 59020 standards already cover the overall recycling system, this standard will only define terms related to rare earth scrap, waste products, rare earth recovery, and pre-treatment and processing for recycling. The establishment of this standard will contribute to unprecedented advancements in communications and technology.
