Scope

This document is offered for standardisation because of lack of standards on calculation of the carbon footprint for mechanical and plant engineering and the need to have a common document for mechanical products and to harmonise the calculation method for carbon footprint to facilitate the comparison between products.

Purpose

This document specifies the procedure for calculating the carbon footprint of products (CFP) in accordance with ISO 14067:2018 (Carbon footprint of products (CFP)) for mechanical and plant engineering.

It is applicable to all products in mechanical and plant engineering, from components and parts to complete machines or plants.

It serves as a basis for establishing product category rules (PCR) for products and product groups in mechanical and plant engineering. The methodology considers the "cradle-to-gate" (3.9) for the calculation of the CFP and refers to a "declared unit" (see section 3).

This document is in accordance with EN ISO 14067:2018 and the cradle-to-gate calculation as defined by the Greenhouse Gas Protocol and is based on the specifications of EN ISO 14040:2006 and EN ISO 14044:2006. This document also contains information on where specific provisions for mechanical and plant engineering that are not included in standards are described.
