It does not cover long-range radio transmissions. This European Standard defines the terms used in the field of intrusion alarm equipment using radio frequency links as well as the requirements relevant to the equipment.
EN 50131-5-3 : 2017 needs to be revised in order to address alternative technologies for RF-based alarm system which are currently not covered as the use of these technologies potentially have impact to the security aims of the standard (e.g. reliability and availability) Furthermore, the availability of technologies which can be used for the mitigation of security functionality (by e.g. replay attacks) is growing vastly and this could imply new threads for stakeholders of RF-based alarm systems. Therefore, the respectively raising risks need to be addressed by appropriate measures which should be part of the standard. Also, a harmonisation with other standards (especially the EN 50131-1) should be processed. And finally, the use of the existing standard (version 2017) has shown that there is need for clarifications and fault elimitnations and there might be potential for removal of ambiguities.
