Scope

This international standard specifies general requirements and testing methods for liquid hydrogen fuel system components intended to be used as part of a liquid hydrogen fuel storage system for INTERNAL & PARTNERS 5acXjzUk land vehicles. In addition it provides general design principles and specifies requirements for instructions and markings.

The following components are covered:

a) Check valves;

b) Manual valves;

c) Automatic valves;

d) Pressure sensors, temperature sensors, pressure gauges;

e) Pressure regulators;

f) Level sensor;

g) Vacuum sensors;

h) Pressure relief valves (PRV);

i) Pressure relief devices (PRD);

j) Excess flow valves;

k) gas-tight housing and leakage capture lines and passages;

l) Rigid fuel lines;

m) Flexible fuel lines, hoses and hose assemblies;

n) Filter assemblies;

o) Fittings;

p) Discharge line closures;

q) Heat exchangers;

r) Electric heaters;

s) Boil-Off-Valves and

t) Boil-Off-Gas converters;

It is recognized that miscellaneous components, not specifically covered herein can be examined to meet the criteria of this document and tested according to the appropriate functional tests. This document does not cover the following items:

• a) fuel containers;

• b) stationary appliances;

• c) container mounting hardware;

• d) electronic fuel management;

• e) refuelling receptacles;

Purpose

The purpose of this new standard is to provide a guideline on the design and requirements of liquid hydrogen fuel system components and to harmonize testing methods and quality criteria, in particular for the application in land vehicle fuel tanks. Especially for components not covered in current hydrogen-specific standards, such as the boil-off management system, this standard specifies design and testing requirements suitable for vehicle application. In addition, this new work V01/2022 INTERNAL & PARTNERS 5acXjzUk item proposal aims to provide the normative requirements for liquid hydrogen in line with standards for other fuels, i.e. CGH2 (ISO19887-1), CNG (ISO 15900 series) and LNG (ISO 12614 series), where dedicated fuel system component standards are available. Currently ISO/CD 13985 contains requirements and test procedures for the most important components isolating the liquid hydrogen storage container however, further components necessary for operation are not covered. Aligned with the structure of existing fuel component standards, the contents—specifically ISO/CD 13985 Annex D and E along with other liquid hydrogen components—will be integrated into the new work item.
