Scope

This document details the method for shear testing of metallic materials and procedure to obtain flow curve from this test. It is applicable to monotonous path for large strain and anisotropy characterizations and to reversed path for Bauschinger effect characterization. Fracture characterization is not considered. This standard is not intended nor for sandwich sheet with polymer and other materials except metals nor for assembly characterization (welding, bonding, riveting…).

Purpose

The simple shear test is widely used to evaluate the mechanical properties of sheet in shear state. This test is frequently used to investigate the hardening behaviours of sheet metals in large-strain region since it can achieve a large strain without inducing instability. Many simple shear analyses and test methods have been proposed. However, the mechanics community lacks a widely accepted and standardized test method for evaluating shear deformation. This proposal specifies a method for the characterisation of work hardening using shear test. (Please use this field or attach an annex)
