Scope

This document aims to provide guidance and a basic set of requirements for vehicle coupler for ACD-U systems designed for daily commuting use case (not for punctual long journeys).

Purpose

This document is in combination with IEC 61851-26 Electric vehicle conductive charging system - Part 26: EV supply equipment with automated connection of a vehicle coupler located at the underbody of an electric vehicle. It aims at defining the best-in-cost coupler compliant with safety and reliability and packaging requirements for ACD-U systems designed for daily commuting use case (not for punctual long journeys).

The commuting use case applies for home and office normal charging speed (up to 22kW AC (400V x 32A three phases)). This vehicle coupler is intended to equip Passenger Electric Vehicles and Light Commercial Vehicles globally.
