Scope

This document specifies requirements and test methods for pipes and fittings which are part of piping systems for the rehabilitation by means of renovation and trenchless replacement of underground gas supply networks.

It is applicable to unplasticized polyamide (PA-U) pipes, fittings and assemblies, as manufactured and as installed. It is not applicable to the existing pipeline.

It is applicable to technique families for renovation:

— lining with continuous pipes;

— lining with close-fit pipes; and technique families for trenchless replacement:

— pipe bursting and pipe extraction;

— horizontal directional drilling and impact molding and intended to be used at an operating temperature of 20 °C as the reference temperature.

NOTE For applications operating at constant temperatures greater than 20 °C and up to 40 °C, see ISO 16486-5:2021, Annex C.

This document is applicable to:

— PA-U solid wall single layered pipes (nominal outside diameter, d n ), including any identification stripes;

When used with lining with close-fit lining pipes, the lining pipe is reduced on site to provide a closefitting independent or interactive pressure pipe liner.

NOTE: Paper [13] provides a case study for interactive pressure pipe lining.

This document is applicable to jointing by means of butt fusion and electrofusion and to fabricated and injection-moulded fittings and mechanical connections of PA-U.

This document is not applicable to push-fit jointed discrete pipes assembled as part of the trenchless installation process

Purpose

ISO/TC 138/SC 8 developed a suite of standards for the rehabilitation of existing pipelines for four different application areas, split per technique family. Development took place jointly with CEN via the Vienna Agreement. AoC documents for these were also developed by material base under VAagreements.

As such, 19 system standards (as ISO 11296, 11297, 11298, 11299 & 21255 series) and 3 AoC documents (as TS 23818 series) have been published by 2022. However, ISO/TC 138/SC 8 agreed to revise these system standards and merge them by material base into ISO 11300- X(water/sewer) and ISO 11301-X(Gas) on the occasion of Systematic Reviews 2023.

Whereas, in WG 4 activity report (WG 4 N046) it was reported that at the 4th WG 4 meeting in Kyoto comments received at ad-hoc ballot from US, Germany, Japan were discussed and some editorial changes were considered. US and Germany proposed for WG 4 to consider including PA 11 and PA12 pipes to the scope of ISO 11299 which will be considered for a future edition subject to receipt of related technical information. The US and German proposal was based on different “Letters of Support (LoS)” from the industry.

ISO 11301 series will merge different rehab standards of ISO 11299 series, where for the consideration FORM 4 – New Work Item Proposal (NP) Version 01/2022 of PA-U was proposed to initiate as ISO/PWI 11301-5 and TS 23818-5 in ISO/TC 138/SC 8 plenary 2023. Both PWIs were assigned to SC 8/WG 4 in collaboration with SC 4/WG 7. The PWIs were commented by SC 8/WG 4 and SC 4/WG 7 and the both drafts were modified. SC 8/WG 4 agreed to proceed ISO/PWI 11301-5 and PWI/TS 23818-5(this item) to next stage. Thus, DIN proposes to start NP ballots of ISO 11301-5 and TS 23818-5.
