ISO/TC 138/SC 8 developed a suite of standards for the rehabilitation of existing pipelines for four different application areas, split per technique family. Development took place jointly with CEN via the Vienna Agreement.
As such, currently 19 system standards have been published, from which the great majority were up for Systematic Review in 2023.
Within the WGs of SC 8, it was proposed to merge the existing system standards to reduce the extent of duplication across the standards and to allow for easy maintenance of the standards in future. This merging was proposed to be done per pipe material, for drainage, sewerage and water supply applications on the one hand and gas application on the other hand.
In previous WG 4 activity report (WG 4 N046) it was reported that at the 4th WG 4 meeting in Kyoto comments received at ad-hoc ballot from US, Germany, Japan were discussed and some editorial changes were considered. US and Germany proposed for WG 4 to consider including PA 11 and PA12 pipes to the scope of ISO 11299 which will be considered for a future edition subject to receipt of related technical information. The US and German proposal was based on different “Letters of Support (LoS)” from the industry.
ISO 11301 series will merge different rehab standards including ISO 11299, where for the consideration of PA-U is already initiated by developing a part 5 (actual WD stage).
Following up on this, SC 8/WG 1 is now ready to proceed and proposes to activate a new work item for PWI /TS 23818-5, “Assessment of conformity of plastics piping systems for the rehabilitation of existing pipelines — Part 3: Unplasticized polyamide (PA-U) material”.
It is requested to activate PWI/TS 23818-3 to allow further development.
SC 8 secretariat endorses the above-mentioned proposal to proceed PWI/TS 23818-3 to NP ballot.
