Scope

This document applies to direct current (DC) connectors used in fixed energy storage units, intended to be connected to cables and to achieve the transmission of electricity.

These DC connectors have a rated operating voltage not exceeding 1500 V DC and a rated current not exceeding 800 A DC.

This document deals with the technical requirements of DC connectors for fixed energy storage units, including markings, construction, protection against electric shock, temperature rise, mechanical strength, mechanical endurance, electrical endurance, cli matic endurance and so on. Meanwhile, related test conditions and test methods are specified in this document.

DC connectors complying with this document are suitable for indoor or outdoor use, with operating temperatures ranging from -40 °C to+125 °C and relative humidity ranging from 3% to 95%.

Purpose

The DC connectors for fixed energy storage units can achieve the transmission of electricity, and are applied to the internal and/or external of the battery packs, combiner boxes, power converters, etc.

IEC TS 63066”Low-voltage docking connectors for removable energy storage units” specifies the technical requirements of the docking connectors equipped with guiding means and automatically docked through mechanical control. One part of the docking connecto r is installed on the rack, the complementary part is installed on the removable energy storage unit, and the two parts are docked to achieve transmission function. The application scenarios and product types of this docking connector are different from the DC connector for fixed energy storage units, and there are also differences in corresponding technical requirements and test methods.

IEC 60309-1”Plugs, fixed or portable socket-outlets and appliance inlets for industrial purposes - Part 1: General requirements” specifies the general requirements and test methods of industrial electrical accessories (including connectors), which are appl icable to AC and DC electrical accessories with a rated working voltage not exceeding 1000 V, a rated current not exceeding 800 A. The technical contents in IEC 60309-1 focus much on AC electrical accessories.

Considering the characteristics of high voltage, high temperature, susceptibility to corrosive liquid leakage, and direct current transmission of fixed energy storage units, and it is necessary to develop a specific standard for the DC connectors used in f ixed energy storage units.

The DC connectors have been used widely in fixed energy storage units in recent years. Some cases have shown that lack of particular requirements for DC connectors for fixed energy storage units may affect the quality and limit the application of the produ ct and have bad effects on trading, authentication and other related activities.

This document aims at developing a product standard for the DC connectors for fixed energy storage units, so as to deal with or figure out the problems mentioned above and making international technical requirements reach an agreement.
