PNW TS 23H-549 ED1: Plugs, socket-outlets, vehicle connectors and vehicle inlets - Conductive charging of electric vehicles - Part 8: Safety requirements of Vehicle to Load adapter for electric vehicle

Scope

This technical specification specifies general, mechanical and electrical requirements of Vehicle to Load (V2L) adapter which connects to the electric vehicle power supply circuit using the electric vehicle inlet and provides AC power to the standard socket-outlet for external electric loads.

This technical specification includes requirements for the detection of the presence of V2L adapter, which is in accordance with IEC 61851-1 and ISO 5474-2.

Purpose

Electric vehicles with Vehicle to Load capabilities from HYUNDAI and KIA sold more than 500,000 EVs. In addition, BYD and MG provide V2L capabilities to their EVs.

The V2L adapter required to apply the V2L function has already appeared on the market and many users are starting to use in outdoor activities or work. Nonetheless, V2L adapters still pose potential safety concerns for users due to the lack of the mechanical and electrical safety standards. Furthermore, various cars will be compatible with the V2L adapter in near future.

This document will solve issues for the safety of V2L adapter and its user.
