This document also applies to distributed platforms, multiple cloud models (including multi-cloud, hybrid cloud, inter-cloud and federated cloud) and related intelligent nodes.
Cloud computing has evolved significantly over the past decade to incorporate new technologies and services including multi-cloud models, distributed platforms and federation of services, all of which depend on standards-based networks that are highly adaptive, integrated, secure, interoperable and automated. This document provides a landscape and guidance concerning the models, methods and techniques for networking among cloud computing and edge computing systems. This document expands on existing JTC 1/SC 38 standards as well as industry initiatives, all of which can benefit from commonly accepted vocabulary, concepts and patterns. A commonly accepted landscape and approach to cloud and edge interoperability provides guidance and illustrative scenarios for cloud and edge computing users, providers and partners.
