PNW SYCSMARTCITIES-300 ED1: Smart Cities Reference Architecture (SCRA)

Scope

This NP proposes a Smart Cities Reference Architecture (SCRA), which would be template for architectures of various smart cities.

Purpose

The SCRA provides a unified approach for architecting and implementing Smart Cities as an eco-system to allow common solutions in similar contexts, aiming at improving efficiency and at increasing opportunities for business and innovations.

The Positioning of the SCRA as an International Standard will address the following market, industry and standardization needs:The SCRA will help Smart Cities stakeholders, programmes and projects to collaborate and coordinate their efforts via common agreements (i.e. standards) on various system elements (e.g. services, interfaces, data, etc.), guiding principles and sharing vision. The SCRA will be a key enabler for aligning various stakeholders’ concerns, ontologies, existing models and viewpoints thus facilitating coordination and cooperation in developing a commonly agreed understanding about the Smart Cites problems and potential solutions.

The SCRA will define Smart Cities capabilities to allow standardization of interfaces and functionality for Smart Cities building blocks to be provided by various industry sectors. The SCRA will be a key enabler for effective and efficient collaboration of all SDOs in the Smart Cities system domain. The SCRA will be a primary mechanism to attract investments into Smart Cities construction because the common approaches it will allow the cities to take, shall enable the gathering of reliable evidence on Return on Investment.
