Scope
5. Proposed scope of revision
• Contradictory information will be removed.
• The 6349 series generally have been revised to align with the Eurocode suite of standards, and Part 6 requires this update to remain compatible with the Eurocodes. This will ensure that the most modern and sophisticated methods are used in the design and construction of inshore moorings and floating structures.
• General updates will be made to align with related standards published after the withdrawal of BS 6349-6 – including reference to content in the other BS 6349 series.
• Part 6 is the missing link to content in the other BS 6349 standards.
• Safety aspect: Designers and planners still refer to the 1989 withdrawn standard as there is not any other civil engineering, 1st principal focussed standard available.
• Revision of part 6 will enable revision of other parts of the BS 6349 series as information will be removed and placed into other standards where it is a better fit. i.e. Some sections of the standard will be removed from the main body of the text and either moved into an Annex or transferred to another standard (e.g. BS 6349-2 for guidance related to actions).
