Revision to BS 6349-1-4:2021 - Maritime works - General. Code of practice for materials

Scope

The scope is unchanged. The current standard makes recommendations, in two specific areas, which are unachievable by industry. These two areas of the standard should be updated.

Purpose

To update the two specific areas in the current as outlined below to make the standard achievable by industry.

1.  Chains (Cl. 9.3) the current standard recommends chains should be compliant with Lloyds Rules. However it has been found that Lloyds Rules for chains are now old/outdated and such chains are no longer readily available. Update text to refer to relevant BS EN chain standards instead.

2. The current standard provides recommendations for moulded and extruded fenders (Cl 16).  However the recommendations given are for moulded fenders only and extruded fenders cannot meet these same criteria due to their differing manufacturing process. Add additional table for extruded fenders.
