characteristics-anion concentration for powder of graphene-based material by ion chromatography.
In this part of IEC TS 62679, the measured anions are fluori de, chloride, nitrite, bromide, nitrate,
sulphate, and phosphate. Powder of graphene-based material addressed by this document includes
graphene oxide, reduced graphene oxide and functionalized graphene, graphene, bilayer graphene,
trilayer graphene and few-layer graphene.
In recent years, graphene-based materials have drawn increasing attention from academia and industry due to their unique physical and chemical properties. Powders consisting of graphene - based material are now mass produced and widely used in batteries, capacitor, coating, heat conducting, etc.
Anions are the common and concerned non-metallic impurity in graphene-base material. Anions come from raw materials or chemicals used during production process. Anions influence applications of graphene-based material. For example, anions may cause changes in reversible capacity and coulombic efficiency when graphene-based material is used in battery and capacitor. Therefore, anion concentration is a key characteristic for graphene -based material.
Reliable, accurate, and reproducible measurements of anion concentration are important in order to maintain quality, considering that there are multiple production routes and producers of graphene - based materials. Ion chromatography has advantages of unique selectivity, fast analysis speed, high sensitivity, good accuracy, and easy operation over alternative techniques in the analysis of anions. More importantly, Ion chromatography can determine various anions simultaneously.
The purpose of this document is to provide optimized preparation and measurement and analysis procedures for graphene-based materials in powder form in order to enable accurate and quantitative determination of anion concentration using Ion chromatography
