— understand the relevant digital sovereignty and autonomy matters;
— identify the relevant attributes for the organization's potential digital platform and the choices necessary to address the issues;
— balance the range of available options to achieve the desired organizational autonomy.
This document is applicable to all organizations and policy makers involved in organizational autonomy and digital sovereignty in cloud services and distributed platforms.
Often described as “digital sovereignty issues”, there are increased efforts by regulators and legislators to ensure that local organizations have access to a broad and competitive range of secure, powerful and reliable digital capabilities so they can meet these sovereignty requirements, contribute to the local economy and compete on the world stage. Many of these organizations deal across jurisdictional boundaries (for example, partners, suppliers and customers) and must therefore deal with a plethora of such sovereignty issues.
There is a market need for a project that helps organizations address these issues – many of which are unique to cloud computing and distributed platforms.
This document provides a framework for understanding and evaluating the implications of digital sovereignty requirements on the organization – and how the organization should configure its digital platform to appropriately balance those requirements with its own need for organizational autonomy to achieve its goals.
