1) Marketing relevance:
The global Smart home and IoT market is growing rapidly with an annual growth rate of approximately 20%. Over 50% of Smart Home control and/or Alarm Security control are extended based on User Receiver Unit (URU) of BIS.
This product form originated in Europe market.
At present, the Smart Home BIS annual growth in the world is about 15%, the annual growth in Europe and Asia markets is 20%.
2) Rationale:
Building intercom systems belong to the category of security protection and control (IEC TC79). It is natural to extend the security of the building to the homes supervising indoor alarms through the BIS indoor devices. In fact, this is a basic demand of the international market at present. At the same time, the rapid growth of smart home and IoT products has also accelerated the development of building intercom system’s URU with extended smart home control or IoT control functions. It is a good solution in terms of economy, space, and usability the use of URU as the main controller of smart home or IoT, which is also a current global demand of the market.
The IEC 62820-1-1 ‘Building intercom systems - Part 1-1:System requirements – General’ and IEC 62820-1-2 ‘Building Intercom Systems - Part 1-2:System Requirements - Building Intercom Systems Using the Internet Protocol (IP)’ standards have been released and implemented with success, serving as the technical basis for the development of this proposed standard. The main requirements and test methods for audio and video characteristics of the private network, electromagnetic compatibility, safety, and environmental adaptability are the same and must be compliant. It is required to add the specific functions and performance requirements for these kinds of applications.
3) Feasibility:
After discussion in the 16th WG13 Plenary Meeting (June 2021), WG13 working group decided to submit the New Work Item Proposal 62820-1-3 to TC79 by National Committee of China. Experts in WG13 have accumulated rich experience in BIS and smart home product development. It will greatly promote the development of this proposal. National Committee of China has developed a national standard GB/T 37845-2019 ‘Technical Requirements for Home Security Intelligent Management Systems’. It can be referred to in future preparation of 1-3.
