Cloud services that include platform capabilities such as the execution of customer provided software code are increasing in market adoption and importance. However, there is no current international standard meaning for some of these concepts and terms.
This document will assist organisations to:
1. Clarify the international standard meanings of “platform capabilities type” and “Platform as a Service” beyond the basic definitions in ISO/IEC 22123;
2. Use common and consistent terminology to refer to core aspects of different cloud platform technology services;
3. Understand the various technology platform concepts, architectures, and choices that are available to them;
4. Understand some reasonable expectations and recommendations for CSPs such as accessibility and transparency of service offerings
