The category “catering equipment” includes all equipment that directly related to the commercial kitchen ecosystem. Annex B contains a list of equipment covered by this standard.
The interface definition includes
• General requirements for this interface;
• Electrical design of the interface;
• Signal significance;
• Circuit examples.
This document defines the requirements for the connection of a power optimisation system.
This document applies to catering equipment related to canteen/commercial kitchens- and other food processing facilities, the type and design of which are intended for commercial use and for connection to power optimisation systems. This interface enables commercial kitchens to be integrated into smart grid systems. It does not apply to gaspowered large kitchen appliances and household appliances.
NOTE Electromechanical drives of catering equipment are excluded.
Commercial kitchens generally have a quite high energy consumption. By connecting the catering equipment to a power optimisation module, the power demand of the appliances within the commercial kitchen can be intelligently controlled so that peak electrical loads are avoided. This allows enormous savings on the generation side in peak power generation and the associated CO2 load. With this NWIP the basics are laid for a standardised connection between a power optimisation module and the catering equipment, which allows intelligent energy distribution between the appliances present in the commercial kitchen ecosystem.
The NWIP thus helps to ensure that commercial kitchen can be operated more efficiently from an energy point of view. Commercial kitchens can therefore be operated more sustainably and thus contribute to the achievement of climate protection goals.
The work in TC59X is preferred because commercial catering equipment is well known there, so that the topic can be advanced more quickly.
