This document specifies procedure to determine the elasticity and related properties of woven textile fabrics using a cruciform test piece in biaxial testing. The method is mainly applicable to woven textile fabrics which exhibit stretch characteristics imparted by the presence of an elastomeric fibre, mechanical, or chemical treatment.
It is hard to predict accurately the dynamic behaviour of fabric in the actual conditions due to the followed reasons:
1) In actual condition, a load or an external force is applied to fabric in the multi-axial direction.
2) A fabric normally has a two-dimensional or three-dimensional structure in which all of the fibres are organically connected to give an influence each other.
3) The fabric is subjected to the evaluation by dividing the warp/weft directions.
Therefore, it is necessary to develop a new method that can evaluate the biaxial tensile properties and provide the most similar measurement data to mechanical properties in the actual environment.
Particularly, in the case of textiles that are exposed to high stress or have high activity, the warp/weft texture and patterns can be designed considering the mechanical properties in the using conditions as a result a more effective development of product can be expected.
