CEN/TC 72 N3518 (N 3479 reissue) Fire detection and fire alarm systems - Part 40: Components of voice alarm systems – Active loudspeakers

Scope

This European Standard specifies product characteristics, test methods and performance criteria for loudspeakers with active components (active loudspeakers) intended to broadcast a warning of fire in the form of tone(s), voice message(s) or both, between a fire detection and fire alarm system for buildings and civil engineering works and the occupants of a building.

NOTE 1. The overall performance of a voice alarm system, especially concerning audibility and intelligibility, is not covered by this part of EN 54. Such system performance may be recommended in CEN/TS 54-32, in national legislation, codes and standards or in contractual documents.

NOTE 2. Passive loudspeakers are covered by EN 54-24 and sounders (including voice sounders) are covered by EN 54-3.

Purpose

Active loudspeakers form an important part of many voice alarm projects. EN 54-24 specifically does not cover active loudspeakers. This new standard provides requirements for active loudspeakers. This provides a means of conformity for these product types. It also potentially provides the basis for an ETA if a product requires full CPR compliance.
