ISO/TC 228 N 1673, ISO/NP 9907 Tourism and related services -- Tourist information and reception online and onsite services

Scope

This document provides requirements and guidelines in order to ensure a minimum quality for online and onsite Tourist Information Services provided by Tourist Information Offices (TIO) of any type and size, whether publicly or privately operated, in order to satisfy visitors’ expectations.

This document is the revision of ISO 14785 whose contents have been updated and includes now guidelines to online tourist services.

Purpose

The main purpose to revise ISO 14785 is to include Additional Guidelines for Online Tourist Information Services in order to:

•To enhance organizational design for simultaneous implementation of ISO management system standards and Online Tourist Information Services.

•To enable tourists to quickly search, interact, compare, and make decisions to purchase online tourism and hospitality deals.

•To strengthen online tourist information services management.

•To facilitate the market to a variety of visitors.

•To expand the number or variety of places visited within a destination.

•To act as a moderator and to tie the community’s relationship with tourism together.

•To provide deep technical experience and professionalism as tourism consultants.

•To enhance online information quality and user-friendly accessibility.

•To shape tourists’ positive emotions and to spread positive electronic word-of-mouth (e-WOM).

•To promote the role of being a leading information source.

Justification 1: The rapid development of online tourism industry The global online travel agent market reached a value of nearly $744.7 billion in 2019, having increased at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 7.9% since 2015.By 2023 the market is expected to have grown at a CAGR of 11.24% to reach 820.18 billion U.S. dollars.

Justification 2: Online trend of tourist information consultancy Tourists start searching for online information about the best tourist destination and hotels before planning their actual traveling schedule. Especially in the case of an epidemic. The possession of information communication technology (ICT) devices, such as laptops, tablets, iPads, and smartphones, has fuelled the use of the internet in tourism planning, promotion and consumption across the globe.

Justification 3: Unique travel circumstances brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic Being malleable in a destination’s goals is more important than ever with the unique travel circumstances brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic. Guests rely more than ever on an informed and developed information centre as a core asset to any outstanding destination.

Justification 4: Reducing barriers to International Travel Tourist information services are capable of providing accurate and diversified tourist information conveniently for international tourists. 

The main purpose to revise ISO 14785 is to include Additional Guidelines for Online Tourist Information Services in order to:
