ISO/TC 38/SC 24 N 561, ISO/NP 9348 Textiles -- Determination of the propensity of fabrics to accumulate particulate matter -- Digitalmeasurement method

Scope

This document provides a method of measuring the characteristic of fabrics to particulate matter resistance. It is suitable for measuring apparel fabrics. Generally this present standard applied to textiles that may be exposed to the external environment.

Purpose

This document provides a method to measure the resistance performance of fabrics to the fine dust. It is suitable for measuring apparel fabrics that may be exposed to the external environment.

Fine dust has the characteristic of adhering to textiles by interception, electrostatic, and impaction effect. The fine dust adhered to textiles from the outdoor activity might enter the indoor environment through a person and cause indoor air pollution.

Fine dust has a very small particle size (generally diameter 10 micrometres and smaller) unlike road dust, and may be entering the human body through breathing which hazardously affects human health. The IARC (The International Agency for Research on Cancer) has declared particulate matter as carcinogenicity (Group 1) to humans.

We are limiting the conception of fine dust as particulate matter in this proposal. This proposal is focusing how to assess the resistance performance of fabrics to particulate matter by using digital analysis.

To enhance the resistance performance of textiles to fine dust, the manufacturer generally has either applied an anti-static technology to textiles or coated on textiles. Hence, this proposal can provide the information of the resistance performance of fabrics to particulate matter not only to consumers but also stakeholders of manufactures who adopt it to the textiles
