Scope

Revision of ISO 817: 2014 based on recommendations from ISO/TC 86/SC 8/TF 1, ISO/TC 86/SC 8/TF 2, and ISO/TC 86/SC 8/MA.

Purpose

ISO 817 needs to be modified to improve usefulness to those that manufacture or use refrigerants. Recommendations have been received from TC 86/SC 8/TF 1 to modify the standard to better align ISO 817 and ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 34. It has been proposed that the scope be expanded to include “data for the safe use of refrigerants”, in addition to data needed for the safety classification. It is expected that TF 2 will be submitting recommended changes to 817 related to toxicity safety classification. The revised standard should make it easier for refrigerant manufacturers to submit applications for designation and safety classification of refrigerants.
