This document specifies test method for the determination of burning behaviour of manmade fibres by oxygen index.
It is applicable to manmade fibres.
It shall be only used for the purpose of testing burning behaviour of manmade fibres under conditions of this test, controlling quality of the products, or studying the factors causing the fire of some particular manmade fibres, not for assessing fire risk in their actual use.
The purpose of the proposal is to provide a uniform method for determination of burning behaviour of manmade fibres. It aims to eliminate the international trade disputes, arising from differences in evaluation of burning behaviour of manmade fibres. Meanwhile, it provides method support to help the enterprises control their product quality well.
Justification:
Currently, there is no uniform burning behaviour test method suitable for fibre-shaped material. The lack of standards has largely restricted the development and market promotion of flame-retardant fibre products.
This standard focuses on solving the difficulties of how to make test samples with manmade fibres, as well studying and establishing the corresponding test conditions and so on. Based on the oxygen index, it is convenient to estimate the ease of combustion of materials. Therefore, it is scientific to assess burning behaviour of manmade fibres by oxygen index method.
The establishment of this method has important guiding significance for promoting the quality improvement and development of flame-retardant fibres, as well as the international trade.
