ISO/NP 6769 Vitreous and porcelain enamels -- Determination of surface scratch hardness according to the Mohs scale

Scope

This proposal specifies a method of test for determining the scratch hardness of the surface of vitreous and porcelain enamels.

Purpose

A European Standard (EN 15771:2010) currently exists which specifies a method of test for determining the scratch hardness of the surface of vitreous and porcelain enamels. This method is widely used in the industry as part of the physical testing of vitreous and porcelain surfaces. EN 15771 was published in 2010 and provides information on the hardness scale of minerals, which allows a characterisation of the scratch resistance of a product to be determined through the ability of a harder mineral to scratch a softer mineral. The proposal is for the established EN 15771 to be transposed into an ISO standard.

Users of the standard will benefit from commonality and synergy in determination of this important physical property for vitreous enamel finishes and this will provide consumers a clear and defined performance measure on vitreous enamel products
