This document specifies the test methods of the quantity for the quantitative analysis of cellulose, hemicellulose, lignin, pectin, fat, wax and other chemical components of flax fibres.
This document is applicable to flax fibres and other bast fibres can be implemented by reference.
The basic components of flax and other bast fibre is cellulose, meanwhile contains pectin, hemicellulose, lignin, fat, wax and other non-cellulosic substances (collectively called "gum"). All of which are grow with cellulose together. Except cellulose, other "gum" will has bad effects on spinning processes. For example,it results in more cluster fibres, coarseness and hardness of fibres, poor yarn uniformity of length and fineness, which all seriously affect the spinning quality and processes. Finally, they result bad degree of uniformity, thickness and fineness yarn on the surface and decline in product yield. Therefore, before the spinning processes, the content of each "gum" should be defined and the corresponding measures should be taken to separate "gum" (this process called degumming). It is very necessary and important to improve the spinnability by improving the splitting degree and whiteness of bast fibres. So the testing and analysis of the composition of flax and other bast fibres has an important impact on the quality of yarn products and final products.
This document provides a method for determination of components of flax and other bast fibres, which provides an effective means for evaluating the quality control of flax fibres in various spinning processes. The establishment of this test method will have an important impact on the actual production and international trade of flax and other bast fibres.
