NOTE 1 This standard includes information on EV for conductive connection but limited to the necessary content for describing the power and signalling interface.
EMC requirements for EV charging stations are defined in IEC 61851-21-2.
Requirements for the control communication between an EV charging station and an EV are specified in IEC 61851-1 and ISO 15118-23. The requirements for digital communication between an EV charging station and an electric vehicle are defined in ISO 15118 series and IEC 61851-24.
This document only applies to automatic coupler of category 1: using a vehicle coupler defined by IEC 62196-2 or IEC 62196-3.
This document does not apply to automatic couplers of category 2: using an electro-mechanical interface defined by EN 50696:–2.
This document does not apply to automatic coupler of category 3: using a vehicle coupler according to IEC xxxxx:–3.
This document does not cover all safety aspects related to maintenance. --
1 Planned ISO standard with vehicle requirements for automatic connection.
2 Under preparation. Stage at the time of publication: prEN 50696:2020-01.
3 Planned IEC standard for automatic couplers located at the underbody of an electric vehicle.
With the increased market acceptance of electric vehicles, the demand for automated charging solutions is growing.
This document provides safety and interoperability requirements for automated charging systems that enable a conductive connection using the well-known vehicle couplers according to existing IEC standards.
