This part of IEC 60335 specifies requirements of electrical safety and testing methods for Electric Heaters for Tobacco Products (EHTPs) when used in normal condition. EHTPs include both Heated Tobacco Products that do not combust tobacco but instead heat it to generate aerosol and E-cigarettes that heat liquid and evaporate it to generate aerosol for consumers to inhale. Among Heated Tobacco Products, so called carbon heated tobacco that use charcoal to heat tobacco is out of scope of this standard, as it does not use electrical heating system.
It excludes mid- and long-term effects on human health.
There are many Electric Heaters for Tobacco Products sold as electrical appliances in the market and used by consumers every day, but no particular international standard available for a moment.
Electric Heaters for Tobacco products Market is expanding worldwide, and serious accidents are occurring by inadequate safety products of various manufacturers. To secure consumers safety, its particular requirements such as safe temperature, fire prevention, battery safety, and safety design, need to be established.
Since heating is a common feature for the products, we provisionally call the devices category, “Electric Heaters for Tobacco Products” and define their sub-categories, HTP (Heated tobacco products) and ECig to work on their particular safety requirements which include followings:
• Definition Electrical Heaters for Tobacco Products
• Scope of the standard • Associated risks of the devices
