Symbols for fuel and oil mixture, chain brake and engine primer, need to be identified by the operator in order to encourage the safe use of the product. The symbols were originally proposed by ISO/TC 23/SC 17 to ISO/TC 23/SC 14 and in turn to ISO/TC 145/SC 2. Document replies from ISO/TC 23/SC 14 N 488 did not accept the registration of the symbols and therefore the symbols currently in use are also not included in the latest 1 September 2016 published ISO 3767-5 standard. Chain saws are relative small machines as they are manually operated and therefore the symbols are also small in size, so it is important that those that have been developed are included in the standard and therefore acceptable to all parties.
