Scope
Scope: Inclusion of symbols for Chain Saws Application: Manufacturers of Chain Saws Objective: To ensure symbols that are well known in the industry, and with customers and operators, as found for many years on chain saws, can continue to enhance the safe use of product within a recognised section of the standard for all to follow, and be readily available.
Purpose
Symbols for fuel and oil mixture, chain brake and engine primer, need to be identified by the operator in order to encourage the safe use of the product. The symbols were originally proposed by ISO/TC 23/SC 17 to ISO/TC 23/SC 14 and in turn to ISO/TC 145/SC 2. Document replies from ISO/TC 23/SC 14 N 488 did not accept the registration of the symbols and therefore the symbols currently in use are also not included in the latest 1 September 2016 published ISO 3767-5 standard. Chain saws are relative small machines as they are manually operated and therefore the symbols are also small in size, so it is important that those that have been developed are included in the standard and therefore acceptable to all parties.
