This part of IEC 60728 is applicable to the optical transmission system for transmitting broadcast signals from the receiving point of terrestrial digital broadcasting to the Gap-filler transmission facility in the operation of a Gap-filler system. This optical transmission system applies to outdoor optical transmission systems for broadcast signal transmission, consisting of optical transmitters, optical amplifiers, splitters, optical receivers, etc.
These systems are intended for the transmission of video and audio signals using terrestrial digital broadcasting systems via optical fiber (optical transmission). This document specifies the basic configuration, system parameters, measurement methods of the optical transmission system between the receiving point of broadcast waves and the Gap-filler transmission facility and evaluates the system's performance and performance limits.
This document is also applicable to broadcast signal transmission using a telecommunications network, provided that the requirements of the optical section of this document are met. However, a detailed description of the physical layer is beyond the scope of this document, and the scope is limited to RF signal transmission over an optical network. Therefore, it does not include IP transport technologies such as IP multicast and related protocols.
This document specifies the required system performance of all-optical transmission networks in order to establish connections between the receiving point of terrestrial digital broadcasting wave and the gap-filler system.
Gap-filler systems are relay stations that are installed as an additional measure to cover narrow areas where reception problems occur due to gaps in the coverage area of terrestrial digital broadcasting. These are broadcasting stations that relay broadcasts to counter reception problems using extremely small power (in case of Japan, usually antenna power of 50 mW or less).
