This British Standard gives recommendations for the safe use of autonomous mobile machinery (AMM).
This British Standard covers ground-based AMM in agriculture and horticulture, including controlled environment production in greenhouses and polytunnels, and AMM operated on a public highway in a non-autonomous mode (i.e. in order to reach different sites).
This British Standard excludes:
a) AMM used in public spaces;
b) stationary machinery, for example greenhouse transplanting machines for which the plants are on a conveyor and transported to the machine;
c) conventional manual non-automated or automated agricultural machinery whether the operator is located on the machine or in a remote location;
d) uncrewed aircraft systems (UAS), more commonly called drones;
e) autonomous machinery operating only on a mechanically fixed path; or
f) forestry machinery.
This British Standard is aimed at owners and operators; however, it can also be of benefit to designers, manufacturers, importers and distributors.
