Scope

Rationale: In the part 1 the conditions of use of the appliances by the children and the person with specific capabilities are specified. It shall be done in this part also with the following text.

Replace the fifth paragraph starting by “As far as is practical,…” by the following:

This standard deals with the reasonably foreseeable hazards presented by drives that are encountered by all persons in and around home. However, in general, it does not take into account:

– persons (including children) whose

 physical, sensory or mental capabilities; or

 lack of experience and knowledge prevents them from using the appliance safely without supervision or instruction;

– children playing with the appliance.

Rationale:

The exclusions are not exhaustive, some are missing. Add the following exclusions.

Add the following dashed items in the seventh paragraph:

– for side curtains ventilation systems– for doors on vehicles;

– lock gates and dock gates;

– doors on lifts;

– armoured doors;

– doors mainly for the retention of animals, unless they are at the site perimeter;

– theatre textile curtains;

– doors outside the reach of people (such as crane gantry fences);

– doors used in industrial processes;

– partition walls;

Rationale: In the document part 1 the word «appliance» is used as «drive». The following will avoid any misunderstanding.

Add the following after the last paragraph

Within the document the terms drive and appliance are interchangeable.
