This document specifies the classification, requirements and test methods for rinsed and non-rinsed hexavalent chromium-free chemical conversion coatings on aluminium and its alloys.
This document applies to hexavalent chromium-free chemical conversion coatings on extruded aluminium and aluminium alloy components, profiles, coils, sheets, as well as cast aluminium alloy parts. Hexavalent chromium-free conversion coatings may serve as a protective coating or as a base for organic coatings (such as paints, rubber, or adhesives).
This document does not apply to chemical conversion coatings containing hexavalent chromium, nor does it apply to electrochemical conversion coatings, such as anodic oxidation coatings.
When the conversion coating is used as a base for powder or liquid coatings, the overall performance requirements for the complete coating system shall be specified in accordance with ISO 18768-1 or ISO 18768-2 .
