Scope

This part of BS 7843 gives recommendations for the design, manufacture and operation of storage and automatic catching raingauges to be deployed at ground level, or close to the ground, for measuring the amount of precipitation in millimetres of water equivalent.

NOTE This part of BS 7843 also provides guidance as to why precipitation data are required, what is measured and how precipitation data are collected.This British Standard is not applicable to remote sensing devices, such as weather radars.
