Scope

This document provides a framework for sustainable goods and services related to harbour cities. It is aligned to the purpose and principles of ISO 37101 series. It can be adopted by harbour operators, shipping and other transport carriers, facility managers and related service providers in harbour cities, transport logistics operators, supply chain companies associated with the harbour area, companies outside the immediate vicinity that are part of the ‘port-industrial’ complex, as well as those engaged in support activities related to services or goods exchange (e.g. maintenance, insurance, financial and legal), all of which can benefit from synergies with a harbour’s services and equipment. It includes harbour operators and local governments concerned by harbour governance aiming to enhance efficiency, effectiveness and resilience of the goods and services concerned. It can be adopted by other economic players of harbour cities. It can be used to evaluate and improve the quality and sustainability of goods and services to meet the evolving needs and challenges.

This framework is applicable to various types of harbour cities, regardless of their sizes, functions, or geographic locations. This includes cities with harbours, such as seaports, inland ports, cruise terminals, fishermen's wharves, as well as maritime cities located near one or more ports.
